Head of Payments | Malta | Hybrid

Location:
Malta
Salary: €80,000 to €90,000 per annum
Working Pattern: Hybrid, Malta based
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Reports To: C-Suite

About the Role

Our client, a fast-growing operator in the online gaming sector, is hiring a Head of Payments to take full ownership of their global payments infrastructure from end to end. Based in Malta, this is a senior role for a payments specialist who wants to set strategy and stay close to the detail. As Head of Payments you will own the systems, relationships and data that let players around the world deposit and withdraw without friction.

This is a role that sits at the commercial heart of the business. Payments performance shapes revenue, player experience and cost directly, so the Head of Payments carries a visible mandate and a direct line to the C-suite. You will be trusted to shape the payments roadmap, make the case for investment, and hold the operation to clear performance standards across every market the business serves.

Success in this Malta-based Head of Payments position looks like higher approval rates, lower processing costs, broader local payment coverage and a resilient, well-monitored payments stack. If you enjoy combining supplier strategy, data and hands-on problem solving in a regulated iGaming environment, this is a role with genuine scope and influence.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Payments you will own relationships with payment service providers, card acquirers and alternative payment method providers. You will negotiate contracts, pricing and service levels to lift approval rates and reduce processing costs, and manage the full PSP onboarding lifecycle from due diligence through to go-live. Keeping routing logic, failover and redundancy well tuned sits at the centre of the role, so you will continuously monitor and optimise how transactions are routed across providers.

You will expand local payment method coverage across key regulated markets including LATAM, APAC, MENA and Europe, making sure players can pay using the methods they trust in each region. Working closely with Finance, you will help manage FX exposure, multi-currency settlement and treasury flows, and you will hold the operation to agreed availability, uptime and performance standards across every region.

Crypto is a growing part of this Head of Payments role. You will build out the business’s crypto and stablecoin payment capabilities, bringing a working understanding of crypto payment rails, wallets and stablecoin settlement to a fast-moving area of iGaming payments.

Payments and regulation are inseparable in online gaming. You will partner with Compliance and Legal to maintain licensing and regulatory obligations across markets, keeping the payments operation inside the lines in every jurisdiction it serves.

You will lead and develop a small payments team of analysts and operations specialists, giving them clear direction and room to grow. Day to day you will work closely with Product, Tech and Customer Support to resolve payment issues quickly and ship improvements that move the numbers.

Finally, you will own the payments dashboards and report on the KPIs that matter, including approval rates, conversion, processing costs and disputes. You will present a clear picture to senior stakeholders and the C-suite, and use the data to decide where to focus next.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced payments professional who is as comfortable with supplier strategy as with a dashboard. The background below will set you up to succeed as Head of Payments.

  • At least 5 years in payments, including 2 or more years in a role with ownership or team responsibility
  • Deep, hands-on experience managing PSP and acquirer relationships, including contract and commercial negotiation
  • A solid working understanding of crypto payment rails, wallets and stablecoin settlement
  • A track record of expanding payment coverage across multiple geographies
  • Confident working with data and dashboards, able to diagnose approval-rate drops and present findings clearly to senior stakeholders

Advantageous

  • Experience in iGaming or another high-risk merchant environment
  • Familiarity with payment orchestration platforms such as PaymentIQ (PIQ)
  • Exposure to FX, multi-currency settlement and treasury processes
  • Experience across LATAM, APAC or MENA payment markets

What’s on Offer

You can expect flexible hybrid working that balances time in the office with remote days, a direct line to senior leadership and the C-suite, and real influence over the payments roadmap. Above all, this is a position where your work is measurable: better approval rates, lower processing costs and broader payment coverage all show up quickly in the numbers and in the player experience.
