Finance Officer – Malta iGaming Job
Finance Officer | Malta | Hybrid
Location: Malta
Salary: €38,000 – €42,000
Working Pattern: Hybrid
Contract: Full-Time Permanent
Reports To: Senior Accountant
About the Role
We are recruiting a Finance Officer to join our client’s finance team in Malta. This is a key support role that forms the backbone of daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and record-keeping. The Finance Officer will work closely with the Senior Accountant to ensure accurate financial statements, smooth month-end and year-end processes, and strict compliance with accounting standards. Success in this role means maintaining meticulous records, managing multiple reconciliations with accuracy and efficiency, and becoming a trusted member of a collaborative finance function.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their accounting career to gain real-world experience across the full finance operation. You will have exposure to journal entries, bank reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, and the complete close process. Working hybrid in Malta, you will balance focused individual work with regular contact with the team, supported by experienced colleagues who value learning and professional development.
Our client operates in the regulated iGaming sector, where financial accuracy and compliance are critical. This role offers the chance to understand how finance works in a sophisticated, fast-growing industry whilst developing a strong foundation in accounting principles and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
The Finance Officer will assist in the preparation of accurate financial statements and reports, working with the Senior Accountant to ensure all figures are verified, reconciled, and compliant with accounting standards. You will post journal entries to the general ledger with care, ensure all entries are properly documented and support the Senior Accountant in reviewing transactions for accuracy before finalisation.
Bank reconciliation is a core responsibility. You will reconcile bank statements to accounting records monthly, investigate discrepancies promptly, and liaise with the bank and internal teams to resolve outstanding items. This requires strong attention to detail and methodical problem-solving.
You will maintain general ledger entries, ensuring the chart of accounts is properly structured and all postings are accurate and complete. Working with accounting software (such as QuickBooks or SAP), you will develop strong technical capability whilst maintaining a clear understanding of the underlying principles.
The Finance Officer will support the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. This includes processing invoices accurately, following approval workflows, recording transactions in the correct period, and helping to monitor aged receivables and payables.
Invoice preparation and processing falls within this role. You will prepare invoices in line with company policy and accounting regulations, ensuring all details are correct and supporting documentation is complete and filed appropriately.
Month-end and year-end closing processes require the Finance Officer to work closely with the Senior Accountant, assisting with reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and other adjustments needed before final accounts are signed off. You will also support audit processes by preparing schedules, maintaining audit trails, and ensuring documentation is complete and accessible.
Finally, the Finance Officer will help ensure compliance with company policies, local Maltese regulations, and international accounting standards. You will keep records organised, maintain filing systems, and raise questions or concerns promptly to protect the integrity of the finance function.
What We’re Looking For
You will have the following essential qualifications and capabilities:
Essential
- Studying or completed degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (e.g. business, economics, audit)
- 2 years of accounting experience, including internships or placements

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a Finance Officer do in iGaming?
A Finance Officer in iGaming handles daily accounting operations much like in other industries. However, given the regulated nature of iGaming, there is particular emphasis on compliance, audit trails, multi-currency transactions, and financial controls. You will gain experience in how finance supports a business operating in complex regulatory environments.
What qualifications do I need to become a Finance Officer in Malta?
You will be studying or hold a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, or IPA are advantageous but not essential for entry-level Finance Officer roles. Practical experience, even from internships, is valued alongside academic study.
What accounting software is commonly used in iGaming companies?
QuickBooks, SAP, Xero, and Sage are widely used across the iGaming sector. The specific system varies by company and region. Familiarity with any modern accounting software platform is valuable because the underlying principles are consistent. Most Finance Officers quickly learn new systems with support.
What career progression is available from a Finance Officer position?
A Finance Officer role provides the foundation for progression to Senior Finance Officer, Accounting Manager, or specialist roles such as Financial Analysis, Compliance, or Internal Audit. With professional qualifications and experience, you can advance to Finance Manager, Controller, or other senior finance positions. Many successful finance professionals began as Finance Officers.
